Life Can Be Rich!

Confinement. My world on the second floor. I see this going until April next year, at least. And……ya know, you all, the confinement in itself is not the worst daily experience! [COVID confinement]

The hardest something to deal with is the never-ending grinding of the Complaints! Most residents here, in my assisted living/nursing home, the more verbal and intelligent they are, the more they seem to complain and gripe! Why? Because usually people who have “all of their marbles” without dementia, are the rehab people. Rehab from the Independent living area or from outside. They are *not* in a good mood as now they are confronting their old age and their future, a future of maybe walkers, wheelchairs, and eventually a Broda chair. Their cup is now half-empty. “Today” is as good as it will ever get!

So I am steeped in this bitter brew. Ah, I have seen a lesson in all of this, though. No one seems to have taught them to appreciate the little things in life, the daily joys that are always there IF you notice them. Sometimes indeed a kind of a week of “fasting” has one to appreciate food. Me experiencing of so many complaining people, has me to realize and to appreciate not only the little good things in life but also positive people.

Of course, if I were confined to a wheelchair and I had to ask nurses for every little thing, I might myself be Tested! Old age is not for sissies, they say in Movieland.

Little good things.

— a kind word from a nurse.

— the nice pie dessert today.

— a song overheard on a radio.

— seeing a butterfly fly over the outdoor patio, where I can go.

— Reading *here* of someone’s uplifting life experience.

We are not taught to notice these.

Worse, the people who could teach us might not even believe Noticing is important! The standard belief system seems to be, in this country, to be,

Life’s a bitch then you die.

Listen to the comedians on tv! This Tone runs through most of them.

I know what might change everyone’s sense of life! Something like of a Near Death Experience, where one then Knows that life is everlasting and that Goodness, truth, and love, are the only realities worth pursuing.

For now, though, why bother to notice anything Good! Noticing, only keeps you from your goal, often to make more money or the Get That Project Done!

Life is rich, then you live!
